MELROSE — Chief Kevin Faller reports that the Melrose Police Department received assistance from mutual aid partners attached to the Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (NEMLEC) SWAT Team during a domestic disturbance on Saturday afternoon.

Melrose Police responded shortly before noon to a home on Sylvan Street for a report of a past disturbance with firearms present.

A NEMLEC SWAT team, which includes specially trained negotiators, was called to the scene about 12:30 p.m. because police had reason to believe a suspect in the incident was armed.

That suspect surrendered without further incident at approximately 1:36 p.m.

Chief Faller wishes to inform the public that there is no danger to the community.

Under the Massachusetts Domestic Violence Act of 2014, additional details of the incident cannot be immediately released.
