MELROSE – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Melrose Chief of Police Kevin Faller have confirmed the ongoing investigation into an altercation that occurred at a residence on Ledge Street in Melrose.

On  October 27, 2023, at approximately 7:05 p.m. a Ledge Street resident called 911 to report a disturbance. Upon arrival police located a male, unresponsive, suffering from apparent stab wounds.  That man, identified as James Percent, 47 of Melrose, was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The preliminary investigation into this matter suggests that a domestic altercation occurred in the home between Mr. Percent and a woman in the home.  At some point during the altercation a 21-year-old man who also lives in the home became involved.  Both men suffered stab wounds in the incident. The second man was also hospitalized for his injuries.

This is active and ongoing investigation being conducted by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the District Attorney’s Office and Melrose Police.  There is no ongoing threat to public safety.
