MELROSE — Chief Michael L. Lyle invites community members to the Melrose Police Department’s free National Night Out event.

- Melrose Bike Patrol Team
National Night Out is held annually on the first Tuesday in August. This is a nationwide campaign designed to strengthen the relationship between public safety officials and residents in order to foster partnerships and improve safety in neighborhoods.
This year, in partnership with the Melrose Fire Department, Melrose Police will sponsor a “Touch a Truck” event, where residents can explore police and fire equipment, along with utility vehicles from other Melrose Departments and many neighboring businesses in attendance.
This family-friendly event will give residents the opportunity to come together as a community and interact with local law enforcement and public safety officials.
Residents will be able to participate in a variety of fun activities including face painting that will be offered by the Melrose Recreation Department, and other games. Slushies and water will be available throughout the event.

One of the best ways to build a safer community is to know your neighbors, your surroundings and your public safety workers,” said Mayor Paul Brodeur. “The Police Department’s Touch-a-Truck event is a great opportunity for community members of all ages to meet our police officers, firefighters, DPW workers, and other public safety workers. I’m also looking forward to seeing the joy on the faces of our youngest residents as they climb and explore the emergency and construction vehicles.”
