The Melrose Police Department is pleased to announce the promotion of Officer Nikolaus MacIntosh to the rank of sergeant.
Sgt. MacIntosh was promoted and sworn in by City Clerk Amy Kamosa during a socially distanced ceremony at City Hall on Monday, March 1.
“It’s great to someone with a commitment to our community’s youth move up the ranks,” Mayor Paul Brodeur said. “I’m excited to see what Sgt. MacIntosh accomplishes in this next stage of his career with the Melrose Police Department.”
“Sgt. MacIntosh has done an outstanding job during his time with the Melrose Police Department and I have no doubt that he will continue to excel in this new role,” Chief Michael L. Lyle said. “I wish him all the best as he takes this next step in his career.”
Born and raised in Melrose, Sgt. MacIntosh joined the department in 2014. For the last four years, he assisted Sgt. Chuck Byrne with the Junior Police Academy. During the summer months, he has worked as a bicycle officer. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 2009 to 2014, and served in Operation Enduring Freedom in 2012
Additionally, Sgt. MacIntosh remains involved with his hometown outside of work, coaching high school and youth wrestling.
Sgt. MacIntosh holds an associate’s degree in criminal justice from North Shore Community College and is working toward a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the University of Massachusetts Lowell. Upon graduation, he plans to pursue a master’s degree at UMass Lowell.
