MELROSE— Chief Michael L. Lyle reports that the Melrose Police Department is investigating a bank robbery.

At approximately 9 a.m. Saturday, the Santander Bank, located at 492 Main St., was robbed. A suspect, described as a white male, 45-50 years old, wearing a gray zip up hooded sweatshirt, gray pants and a knit cap came into the bank and passed a note to the teller demanding the teller put money in a brown paper CVS bag.

The suspect, who was also wearing a blue surgical-style mask and black glasses with what appears to be rhinestones on the front portion of the frames, fled northbound on Main Street with a quantity of cash.

No one was injured, and no weapon was shown.
