There is a 911 Outage in most of Massachusetts. CenturyLink, the carrier that provides nationwide SS7 services to many other carriers, is having significant nationwide operational issues impacting 37 states. This is affecting 911 (wireline & wireless) delivery to most of Massachusetts. If you call 911, you may experience “all circuits busy” message or nothing at all.

Those with an emergency who cannot get through by dialing 911, should call the Melrose Police Department’s dispatch line at 781-665-1212.

Motorists or those on state property/highways needing State Police assistance can also call the following State Police emergency call centers:

  • Shelburne Control PSAP 413-625-8200
  • New Braintree Control PSAP 508-867-1170
  • Northampton Control PSAP 413-586-1508
  • Framingham PSAP 508-820-2121.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The outage may also affect the ability of emergency dispatchers to automatically determine a caller’s location. When reporting an emergency, please take note of and be ready to provide your exact location to the call taker.

CenturyLink has indicted it is working on repairing what the company called a “network element” that is causing the problem.
