MELROSE — Melrose Police Chief Michael L. Lyle reports that the Melrose Police Department is investigating after a car crashed through the front door of a residence on Wednesday morning.

Melrose Police and Fire responded to 49 East Emerson St. at 11:17 a.m. Wednesday. Upon arrival, rescuers found a Ford sedan more than halfway through the entryway of the house.

The investigation indicates that the driver jumped a curb on East Emerson Street, ran over a street sign, crashed through the front porch/stairway of the home and finally through the door.

The driver, a 25-year-old Revere man, told police that he had been coming from a medical appointment nearby and suffered a medical emergency prior to the crash.

The driver was treated at the scene but declined transportation to a hospital. No one inside the home was hurt.

The home sustained serious damages, but was not rendered structurally unstable.
