Melrose Police to Host Second Annual Golf Tournament to Benefit Community Programs

MELROSE — Chief Michael L. Lyle is pleased to announce that registration for the Melrose Police Department’s second annual community golf tournament is now open.

WHEN:

The golf tournament will be held on Friday, Aug. 24.

Registration is at 7 a.m. the day of the event, with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Players must register for the tournament by Aug. 3.

WHERE:

Mount Hood Golf Club, 100 Slayton Road.

WHAT:

The golf tournament serves as a fundraising event to support the Melrose Police Department’s community programs, many of which are free and open to the public, like the Junior Police Academy and the Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) Program. Money raise from the tournament will also go toward the Melrose Police Scholarship Fund, which gives college scholarships to Melrose High School students pursuing an education in policing or criminal justice, and assist in funding the department’s K-9 unit program.

Last fall, more than 20 teams played in the inaugural tournament, which brought in $7,000.

“We had a great turnout at last year’s event and look forward to playing in warmer weather this year,” Chief Lyle said. “Donations from the tournament helped ensure that we are able to continuously offer these community programs to our residents. We hope to see last year’s players and some new faces at this year’s tournament.”

Pricing for the event is $125 per golfer and includes a cart, dinner buffet and a gift bag.

Singles, twosomes and threesomes will be paired with others.

Melrose Police are also looking for tee and green sponsors, which are $100 each.

Those who are interested in playing, sponsoring the event, or who have questions should contact Detective Greg Forestell at 781-953-2376 or gforestell@cityofmelrose.org, or Officer John Goodhue at 781-572-8596 or jgoodhue@cityofmelrose.org.

Checks can be made payable to Greg Forestell c/o Melrose Police Department, 56 West Foster Street, Melrose, MA 02176.
