MELROSE — Chief Michael L. Lyle is pleased to announce that the Melrose Police Department’s community golf tournament brought in $7,000 to support community programs.

On Oct. 16, 86 golfers hit Mount Hood, 100 Slayton Road for a friendly competition.

Lt. Tim Maher and his team took home first place, beating out more than 20 teams to claim the title.

The golf tournament served as the Melrose Police Department’s annual fundraiser. Money raised is used to support community programs like the Junior Police Academy, Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) Program, the Melrose K-9 Program and the Melrose Police Scholarship Fund, which gives college scholarships to Melrose High School students pursuing an education in policing or criminal justice.

“Our first tournament was a great success,” Chief Lyle said. “All the golfers had a lot of fun, despite the cold weather, and we plan to make this an annual event.”

Melrose Police would like to thank all the volunteers for their work on this event and the generous tee and green sponsors:
