Melrose Police Respond to Vehicle that Crashed into East Boston Savings Bank

MELROSE — Chief Michael L. Lyle reports that the Melrose Police Department responded to East Boston Savings Bank earlier today after a vehicle crashed into the building.

At approximately 10:48 a.m., police received multiple reports that a vehicle had crashed into the side of the East Boston Savings Bank at 108 Main St.

Upon arrival, police learned that a 73-year-old woman from Everett had driven her 2014 Nissan Altima into the side of the building, and in doing so, had damaged a gas line.

The bank was evacuated and National Grid immediately responded to the scene to secure the gas line and shut off gas to the building.

No one was injured. The Everett woman declined medical treatment on scene. Her vehicle sustained heavy front end damage and was towed from the scene.

Police cleared the scene at approximately 11:30 a.m.

The operator will be mailed a citation for negligent operation of a motor vehicle.
