Melrose Police Department to Host Community Meeting on Overcoming Addiction

MELROSE — Chief Michael Lyle announces that the Melrose Police Department will host its January community meeting on opioids and overcoming addiction.

The meeting will be held at the Milano Senior Center, 201 West Foster St., on Wednesday, Jan. 25 from 6-8 p.m.

Lead presenters are Chief Lyle and Paul Hammersley of Malden Overcoming Addiction. Hammersley will speak about his personal challenges recovering from the disease of addiction and share local treatment and recovery options for residents looking to receive help. The event will conclude with a question and answer session.

Invited guests include State Sen. Jason Lewis, State Rep. Paul Brodeur, Mayor Rob Dolan and members of the Board of Aldermen.

“Whether you know it or not, this illness affects everyone,” Chief Lyle said. “We encourage anyone and everyone in the city to attend. This is an open invitation to our community to find out more about resources available to you, members of your family, a friend or a coworker on treating addiction and support services.”

The event is part of the department’s monthly community meetings initiative, where police and other city and state officials gather to discuss prevalent topics with members of the community.
