Chief Michael L. Lyle is pleased to announce that he promoted Brian E. Ladner from Patrol Officer to Sergeant during a ceremony on June 10 at City Hall.

Sergeant Ladner began his career at the Melrose Police Department  in October 2008 after attending the MBTA Transit Police Academy. He was sworn in as a Patrol Officer in April 2009.

“We are proud to promote Officer Ladner to Sergeant. He has been a model police officer in his six-year career with the department,” Chief Lyle said. “He brings a number of leadership skills to the community that were developed during his military service. ”

About Sergeant Ladner:

Sergeant Ladner grew up in Malden. He graduated from Malden High School in 1993 and attended Bentley University in 1998, graduating in 2001 with a bachelor’s degree in marketing. He later earned a master’s degree in criminal justice in 2010.  Sergeant Ladner has been a Melrose resident since 2004.

While at Bentley University, Sergeant Ladner joined the Marine Corps Reserve and went on to serve 13 years, including two Iraq deployments. He was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant in May 2013. By August 2013,  he earned a commission with the Massachusetts Army National Guard and is currently serving as Platoon Leader for the C Company in Melrose’s 182 Infantry Regiment.
