The award is named after former Cohasset Police Chief and former Massachusetts Chiefs of Police President Hector J. Pelletier. It is given annually to a member of the association who best exemplifies Chief Pelletier’s dedication to the Jimmy Fund, which supports Boston’s Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Members from the Massachusetts Chiefs of Police presented Chief Lyle with the award on Dec. 15 during an executive board meeting in Middleton.

Chief Lyle was recognized for supporting the Massachusetts Chiefs of Police and the Jimmy Fund — through the annual Jimmy Fund Golf Tournament, which he’s co-chaired for the last three years, raising more than $100,000. Chief Lyle also participated in the Jimmy Fund Walk in 2015 and 2016, where he and his wife walked the entire 26.2 miles to raise money for cancer research.

“I was completely taken aback when I was announced as the recipient of the award,” Chief Lyle said. “I’m very humbled by the recognition and honored to represent the association’s commitment to the Jimmy Fund.”

Chief Pelletier was responsible for making the Jimmy Fund the official charity of the Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association in 1953. In 2016, the Massachusetts Chiefs of Police raised just over $250,000 for the Jimmy Fund through various fundraising events.

About the Jimmy Fund:

Founded in 1948, the Jimmy Fund supports Boston’s Dana-Farber Cancer Institute by raising money for adult and pediatric cancer care and research to improve the chances of survival for cancer patients around the world. The Jimmy Fund has raised millions of dollars through thousands of community fundraising events.
