The K-9 Handler Officer Brian Trainor, and K9 Nero are responsible for patrolling the City of Melrose and conducting specialized duties such as narcotic detection, and other related law enforcement activities.

Officer Trainor and K9 Nero work an assigned shift tracking suspects or missing persons, protecting police officers or other persons from injury or death, apprehending fleeing and/or resisting suspects, assisting in narcotic arrest warrants, and other narcotic related activities.

K9 Nero was born in Strazske, Slovakia on January 1, 2016.  Officer Trainor and K9 Nero attended 16 weeks of Basic Canine Patrol with the Plymouth County Canine Training Group, and 10 weeks of Narcotics Detection Training with the Plymouth County Canine Training Group.

K-9 Officer Sean Morris and K-9 Giselle are responsible for patrolling the City of Melrose and conducting specialized duties such searching crime scenes, assisting with search warrants and protective sweeps for explosives at community events in both Melrose and our neighboring cities.

Officer Morris and Giselle graduated from the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’ Explosive Detection Canine Program in Front Royal, Virginia in 2021.

Giselle began her training for the Guide Dog Foundation, but was soon selected for the ATF Explosive Detection Canine Program. During training, Giselle learned to detect a broad number of explosives and firearms. In September of 2021, Giselle graduated and became a certified Explosive Detection K-9.
