Melrose Police Department Partners with CARFAX to Offer Free Crash Reports Online

MELROSE–Chief Michael Lyle is pleased to announce that the Melrose Police Department has partnered with CARFAX to offer free crash reports to residents and business owners online.

Community members who are involved in a motor vehicle crash in Melrose, where a police officer arrives on scene to take a report, can access that document online at crashdocs.org. (Or visit the Melrose Police Department’s Traffic Division page to access the link and a set of directions here).

The online resource will allow community members to save time by obtaining reports online instead of calling or making a trip to the station.

“We are always looking for ways to better serve our community,” Chief Lyle said. “The purpose of this free service is to prevent residents and business owners from having to make an unnecessary trip to the police department. It’s always nice to give people the opportunity to have resources at their fingertips.”

Members of the community, however, can always go to the Melrose Police Station to obtain a crash report.

In addition to the new crash report distribution platform, Melrose Police Officers will also have access to a wide variety of CARFAX investigative resources to help to assist the Melrose Police Department with combating crime more efficiently and effectively.

Registration Open for Melrose Junior Police Academy

MELROSE — Chief Michael Lyle is pleased to announce that the Melrose Police Department will host its fourth annual Junior Police Academy this summer.

The program consists of three separate one-week sessions in June and July, which will be held at Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School with outdoor activities on Fred Green Field.

Classes run Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. New to the program this year, Wednesday and Thursday classes will be extended until 2 p.m. to allow time for a police station tour and other unique activities.

  • June 26-30 (Session One)
  • July 10-14 (Session Two)
  • July 17-21 (Session Three)

The one-week classes are free and are open to children ages 10-13.

“Our Junior Police Academy continues to grow in popularity each summer,” Chief Lyle said. “This year, we’re happy to be able to expand the course further to give students a chance to see the inside of the police station and get to know their officers better.”

At the junior academy, participants will engage in a range of physical activities designed to promote teamwork and test for speed, focus and physical abilities.

Classroom activities will include learning about investigations, patrol procedures, traffic, bullying, drugs, and cyber safety to educate children on the dangers they can encounter when using technology.

Space is limited, so those interested in participating should sign up early. To register, visit the forms section on the police department’s website, melrosepolice.net, or pick up an application at the police station. Anyone with questions should contact Sgt. Chuck Byrne at 781-665-1212 or cbyrne@cityofmelrose.org.
