Melrose Police Partner with RESPOND Inc. to Increase Domestic Violence Services

Department to Hold Community Meeting to Provide Additional Information on Program

MELROSE —  Chief Michael L. Lyle is pleased to announce that Melrose Police Department is working with RESPOND Inc. to increase domestic violence services for residents.

RESPOND partners with individuals, families and communities to help victims of domestic violence by providing life-saving shelter, a crisis hotline, support services, training, education and more.

On Jan. 1, through a grant from the Violence Against Women Act, Victoria Helberg, a High Risk Program Specialist from RESPOND, began working with the Melrose Police Department, along with the Wakefield and Malden Police Departments to provide services and resources to victims of domestic violence.

“RESPOND is happy to expand our services within the City of Melrose by partnering with the police to further address the public health issue of Domestic Violence,” RESPOND CEO Jessica Brayden said.

To find out more about Melrose Police’s partnership with RESPOND, residents are invited to attend the department’s community meeting on Jan. 31 from 6-8 p.m. at the Milano Senior Center, 201 West Foster St.

During the meeting, Chief Lyle, Detective Daniel Ehlers, who leads the police department’s domestic violence division, a representative from RESPOND and the Melrose Alliance Against Violence will outline services and programs available to residents surrounding domestic violence.

“Our partnership with RESPOND is going to enhance everything that’s already in place with MAAV surrounding domestic violence,” Chief Lyle said. “We’re thankful to have this additional resource to help us further assist victims in whatever ways they need.”

The Jan. 31 event is part of the department’s monthly community meetings initiative, where police and other city and state officials gather to discuss prevalent topics with members of the community.
