Melrose Police Arrest Two for Breaking and Entering into a Motor Vehicle

MELROSE – Chief Michael L. Lyle reports that the Melrose Police Department arrested two boys for breaking into two motor vehicles early this morning.

On Friday, April 22 at approximately 2:01 a.m., police responded to a residence on Cricklewood Lane for a report of a breaking and entering into a motor vehicle. Melrose Police Dispatch stated that a resident had witnessed the act and had two suspects on scene.

Upon arrival, police were met by two men who were later identified as off-duty police officers from another community, one of whom lives in the area. The off-duty officers told police that they witnessed the two male suspects going through two vehicles that were parked in the driveway.

After identifying themselves as police officers, the off-duty officers had the two suspects wait on the pavement until Melrose Police arrived. A third suspect, described as a black male dressed in all black, fled the scene.

A 16-YEAR-OLD BOY and a 17-YEAR-OLD BOY, BOTH OF MALDEN, were arrested for Breaking and Entering into a Vehicle Nighttime for Felony. Nothing was stolen from the motor vehicles.

“We have seen a rise in motor vehicle break-ins in multiple communities over the last several months,” Chief Lyle said. “Fortunately, nothing was taken from the vehicles in this case. However, I want to remind residents to always lock their vehicles and keep valuables out of sight, even if the vehicle is parked in your driveway.”

Both suspects will be arraigned in Middlesex Juvenile Court.

These are allegations. All suspect are considered innocent until proven guilty.
