Melrose Police Organize Second Cyber Safety Community Night for Parents

MELROSE — Chief Michael L. Lyle announces that the Melrose Police Department will host its second cyber safety Community Night for parents later this month.

Residents are invited to attend the event, which is designed to provide information and tips to adults about how to keep children safe while they’re online. It will be held on Jan. 27, from 6-8 p.m. at the Milano Senior Center, 201 West Foster St.

The event is part of the department’s monthly community meetings initiative, where police and other city and state officials gather to discuss a prevalent topic with residents and advise them on the best safety protocols.

Chief Lyle, Officer Dan Ehlers, School Resource Officer Jim Applegate, a Massachusetts State Police trooper from the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and a representative from the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office will be present to lead the discussion.

Topics will include cyber crime, bullying online, internet safety and more.

“Residents should remember that whatever they put on the internet is there forever,” Chief Lyle said. “We want parents to be aware of the potential dangers students may face online and at the same time, know how to protect their children against them.”
