Melrose Car Break-In Suspect, Out On Bail, Re-Arrested for Same Offenses

MELROSE — Chief Michael L. Lyle reports that the Melrose Police Department arrested a man for the second time within a week for allegedly breaking and entering into motor vehicles.

DANIEL S. WALSH, AGE 18, OF MELROSE is charged with:

“We allege that this suspect is responsible for a string of random automotive break-ins, and this individual will now spend an extended period of time in jail,” Chief Lyle said

His bail from his previous case was revoked, and he is now being held without bail at the Middlesex House of Correction for 90 days.

“It is unfortunate that this individual continues to allegedly engage in illegal activity,” Chief Lyle said. “We remind residents to always lock their car doors to deter theft and remove any valuable items from the vehicle.”

On Aug. 2 at about 5 p.m. police were in the area of Whitman Avenue, after receiving multiple reports of car break-ins overnight on Echo Street at Glendower Road. After speaking to a family member who lived in the area, investigators determined WALSH was a likely suspect.

An officer located WALSH on Whitman Avenue, and he was wearing a backpack, matching the description of one that had been stolen from a car the previous night.

WALSH was placed under arrest. At booking, several other items that were reported stolen were located inside the backpack.

WALSH is well-known to police. Previously, on July 29, WALSH was arrested and charged with Larceny of A Motor Vehicle (Second Offense) and Breaking and Entering Into A Vehicle At Nighttime For A Felony.

These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
