Melrose Police Encourage Residents to Attend the First Community Mental Health and Wellness Forum

Police Chief Michael L. Lyle would like to invite the public to attend a community mental health and wellness forum next week.

WHO SHOULD GO:

Parents and guardians of school-aged children from Melrose, Wakefield, Reading, Stoneham, Lynnfield and Saugus.

WHERE:

Galvin Middle School Library, 525 Main St., Wakefield

WHEN:

May 20 from 7-9 p.m.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM:

Larry Berkowitz from Riverside Trauma Center will discuss the concept of resilience and how to foster it in our youth. Kelley Cunningham from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health will speak about how to recognize the signs of anxiety and depression in children. There will also be a number of community organizations at the event to help answer questions about accessing local resources. This event is free to the public and no registration required.

Community resources will include information about emergency services, school-based resources, community outreach programs, state agencies and numerous other important local services in each of the cities and towns. All attendees will have access to a comprehensive resource guide.

“I encourage parents to take advantage of this community event to gain insight on how to identify any mental health or wellness issues their children may be facing during their adolescence,” Chief Lyle said.
